In our latest Talking Sport Podcast, we’re joined by Rathdowney man Shane Keegan, who is currently part of the Dundalk FC staff as they prepare for a Europa League campaign that begins this week against Norwegian side Molde and will also include games at home and away against Arsenal.
He chats about his coaching career, from starting out with Clover Utd in Rathdowney to progressing with the Kilkenny District League teams, Carlow FC, Wexford Youths, Galway Utd and now Dundalk.
Only current Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny managed a League of Ireland team at a younger age than him and we touch on a variety of topics in a wide-ranging interview.
He talks about his relationship with Mick Wallace during his five-year spell in Wexford, his move to Galway and his regrets on how that finished up, the many great League of Ireland stories and his involvement with Portlaoise AFC.
As well as discussing his future ambitions in the game, he also chats about his media work.
He’s a regular contributor on Newstalk’s Off the Ball and previously wrote a column with The Times.
He also presents his own coaching podcast for the42.ie.
