The Laois Association Dublin has suspended all activities and membership for 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Announcing the news, chairman Gerry Thompson revealed that all membership paid would be credited for 2021.
The group, which was established in 1949 to organise a function for the Laois senior hurling team that reached that year’s All Ireland Final, were hoping to hold some events later in the year.
Chairman Gerry Thompson said: “The Laois Association Dublin has taken the regrettable but necessary decision to suspend membership and all activities for 2020 due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“The decision reflects the ever growing concern about the pandemic in Dublin and throughout the country.
“Initially we made contingency plans to hold some events in Autumn but developments have made it necessary to cancel these functions and outings.
“Despite the disappointment this has caused our membership are fully understanding and supportive of the decision taken at committee level.
“All membership subscriptions paid for 2020 will automatically credited for 2021, where hopefully we can meet again as an Association and as friends.
“As always new members will always be welcome. Enquires can be made to myself on 087 9547389.
“This pandemic has affected so many in Ireland, our Association lost one of our own in April with the passing of our dear friend Colm Healion from Covid-19.
“Colm was predeceased by his wife Bridie who passed away in November last year.
“Both Bridie and Colm gave the Association a lifetime of dedicated service. They were friends to everyone and an inspirational presence in the Laois Association Dublin.”
