A Laois nursing home is at the centre of a Covid-19 outbreak.
Residents at Kilminchy Lodge Nursing home have tested positive for the virus in recent days.
LaoisToday understands that as many as 18 residents have contracted Coronavirus.
On Saturday, the Department of Health released figures that shows 28 new cases were in Laois on that day – and it is believed that the majority were in the nursing home.
It is also believed that throughout the pandemic, Kilminchy Lodge nursing home had not recorded a positive case prior to this.
LaoisToday have made attempts to contact management at the nursing home for a statement and are awaiting a statement.
It is also understood that the residents are isolating in separate rooms and are being cared for in this way.
Meanwhile, the cabinet are currently meeting to discuss NPHET’s recommendation that the country move to Level 5 for a period of four weeks.
Dr Tony Holohan met with the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and leader of the Green Party Eamon Ryan this morning.
It is expected that an official announcement will be made this evening.
