‘Not all superheroes wear capes’ – that was the idea behind the ‘Draw Your Hero’ art competition which began during lockdown.
It encouraged children across the country to get creative and draw a picture of their hero – their parents, grandparents, teachers, nurses, doctors or the people who kept the country running.
Thousands of entries were received and now all of the finalists have been selected – with a young Laois girl among them.
Stradbally native Millie-Ann Buggie appeared on Ireland AM this morning alongside her mam Brid-Ann to discuss her wonderful creation.
Millie-Ann, a first class student in St Colman’s NS, spoke to presenter Alan Hughes about the competition.
She completed the painting of her auntie Vanessa Colbert who is a nurse in Athy Nursing Home.
Vanessa, like all other healthcare workers, has taken centre stage since March as the country battles the Coronavirus pandemic.
And Millie-Ann was full of praise for her auntie and she spoke in glowing terms about her to presenter Hughes.
Judging in the ‘Draw Your Hero’ competition is in the closing stages and the winners will be announced shortly.
Best of luck Millie-Ann.
