There was great excitement in Portlaoise College as the school welcomed 168 First Year Students to start their second level education.
This is the highest ever number of students entering First Year at Portlaoise College.
With students looking pristine in their new uniforms, each class arrived at a staggered time and were greeted by Noel Daly, Principal and their Year Head Shane Kelly.
Each student received a framed photo of themselves and their parent to mark their first day at Portlaoise College.
Students were introduced to their class tutor and then received their timetable and undertook their induction in all the new practices in place to curb the spread of Covid-19, such as the one-way system to move around the school building, face coverings worn by all students and staff members, hand sanitisation stations at entrance and classrooms, cleaning down of work areas at the end of each lesson with disposable wipes.
Students were delighted to take-part in socially distanced calls photos which they will remember in years to come.
There were a lot of happy parents this morning to see their children set out on a new chapter in their lives and to see schools back open since the school closures on March 12.
