It’s a big day for students, teachers and parents as a new school year like none before begins around the country.
The schools of Ireland re-open this week for the first time since they were closed on March 12 because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
When the then Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced their closure, it was initially for a two-week period; that then stretched to the end of the Easter holidays before it was eventually announced that the schools would no be re-opening at all for that school year.
Throughout that time huge efforts were made at remote and home schooling but now, after months of preparation, the schools are opening their doors again.
There has been huge work going on behind the scenes to introduce new measures and guidelines and ensure the school premises are a safe place for students and teachers alike.
It’s a huge time for all concerned, not just for the Junior Infants of 2020-21 but for all students and teachers returning to school.
In a normal year, media outlets like LaoisToday would send a photographer to the schools to capture the excitement of the first day.
This year that is more difficult – but we still want to mark the occasion.
That’s why we want you to send us your photos and we will include them on our site and across our social media.
All you need to do is email info@laoistoday.ie or message us on any of our social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
Good luck everyone!
