An aspiring Laois journalist has teamed up with a local videographer to shoot a documentary about the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on her town.
Hannah Cahill, who hails from Rathdowney, joined forces with Terry Smeaton to produce the 40 minute Youtube video.
Ms Cahill performs the narration and carries out interviews with a range of different people in the town.
Speaking about the project, the first year journalism student in TU Dublin explained to LaoisToday how it took four months to complete.
She said: “Terry is a local videographer and helped me immensely with this project. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without his editing skills and equipment.
“It was a tough project for us both, it went on over the course of 4 months.
“We had to bear in mind social distancing rules as we conducted our interviews, it was a new learning experience for us.
“I want this video to be available to people in years to come.
“We have old pictures of the town all around my house, and I want future rathdowney natives to see what it was like for us in 2020.
“This project was done mainly out of prosperity and we enjoyed it immensely.”
Hannah is anxious about returning to college in the new academic year but revealed that her and Terry will be working on more projects in the future.
She said: “I’m just after finishing my first year at TU Dublin, formerly DIT.
“I’m eager to know how lectures will happen, as most of second year is labs and tutorials in broadcasting and radio.
“We have a few more projects coming up and we’re delighted to get started soon.”
