A Portlaoise Hospital employee has tested positive for Covid-19.
The employee, who is not a nurse or a doctor, tested positive for Coronavirus over the weekend.
LaoisToday understands that this person had initially tested negative before a second round test indicated a positive result.
While it is also understood the person was sent for a test after coming into contact with a confirmed case.
As a result, 11 other staff members are out of work as they await the result of their tests.
They are deemed to be close contacts of the infected person and must remain away from work until their tests return negative.
The latest HSE figures show that Portlaoise Hospital currently has no Covid-19 positive patients in their care.
The figures, which come from 8pm on Sunday August 9, show that there is one patient who is suspected of having the virus.
According to the Department of Health, as of August 7, there are 327 cases of Coronavirus confirmed in Laois.
