Who would have thought that a wet Monday in late June would be such a momentous day for so many businesses?
But after well over three months with the doors closed following the Coronavirus restrictions, many businesseses opened their doors again today.
For the owners and staff it’s a significant occasion.
Today marked the start of the Government’s Phase 3 of re-opening the country with hairdressers, hotels, restaurants and cafes among those permitted to welcome customers through the doors again. Restaurants can serve alcohol with a meal – though pubs will remain shut until July 20.
And all around the county, businesses were in high spirits as they re-opened – albeit with many new restrictions and guidelines in place to minimize the risk of spreading the virus that has the country in lockdown since March.
Again, here at LaoisToday we are encouraging our audience to think and support local as part of our summer 2020 #LoveLaois campaign.
“Spend in the county and protect those jobs,” said Caragh Burns-Sharma, who is chairperson of Laois Tourism when speaking at the launch of #LoveLaois campaign last week.
“There is everything here – please get out and support. Don’t underestimate the value of your coffee and scone.
“Every euro that we spend – putting it into our local economy – is taking responsibility for how our beautiful county comes out of this.”
