Laois County Council has welcomed the completion of two new housing developments in Portarlington and Stradbally over the last two weeks.
These homes are a key part of the council’s programme for the delivery of over 420 new social homes in Laois over a three year period to 2021.
The Portarlington development is located at The Glen, Kilnacourt and consists of 18 units of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments.
The approved housing body Cooperative Housing Ireland will own and manage the scheme with tenants nominated by Laois County Council from its housing waiting list.
Funding for this development was provided by Capital Advance Leasing Facility monies. The CALF funding is capital support provided to Approved Housing Bodies under the Rebuilding Ireland Programme to facilitate the funding of construction, acquisition or refurbishment of new social units.
The Stradbally development is located on Main Street and will be known as Court View. It is 16 units of two bedroom bungalows in a cul-de-sac development.
The approved housing body in this instance is North and East Housing Association who will also own and manage the scheme.
Funding for this development was also provided by Capital Advance Leasing Facility monies under the Rebuilding Ireland Programme.
It is envisaged that residents will be moving in in the near future.
