1,286 people have now died from Coronavirus in Ireland – an increase of 25 from yesterday.
It is important to note that not all of these people passed away today and that this is the number that were reported to the Department of Health today.
These people will have passed away in recent days and not just today.
While there has been a total of 343 new cases of Coronavirus have been diagnosed in Ireland today.
This is an increase on the 20,833 cases from yesterday and takes the overall total to 21,176.
Today’s data from the HPSC, as of midnight, Thursday 30 April (20,742 cases), reveals:
· 58% are female and 42% are male
· the median age of confirmed cases is 49 years
· 2,785 cases (13%) have been hospitalised
· Of those hospitalised, 368 cases have been admitted to ICU
· 5,973 cases are associated with healthcare workers
· Dublin has the highest number of cases at 10,277 (50% of all cases) followed by Kildare with 1,226 cases (6%) and then Cork with 1,156 cases (6%)
· Of those for whom transmission status is known: community transmission accounts for 63%, close contact accounts for 34%, travel abroad accounts for 3%
Northern Ireland, the UK and globally
There have been 11 further Covid-19 deaths recorded in Northern Ireland bringing the total to 376.
Also, there have been 66 new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total to 3,689.
The UK Coronavirus death toll increased by 621 in past 24 hours, taking total recorded fatalities to 28,131.
There are now a total 3,435,000 cases of Coronavirus globally. There have been more than 241,000 deaths while 1,097,000 have recovered.
Foreign Travel
Minister for Health Simon Harris has said it is “not looking good” for foreign travel this year.
He said the advice at the moment was not to leave the island of Ireland and it was looking highly unlikely that people would be able to travel abroad for holidays later in the year.

Intensive Care
The number of patients in intensive care with confirmed cases of Covid-19 has fallen below 100 for the first time in just over a month.
There are 99 patients in Intensive Care Units in the country’s 29 acute hospitals with Covid-19. There are also 21 patients with suspected cases of the virus.
There are 184 patients in intensive care who do not have the virus and are suffering from other conditions. As of yesterday evening, there were 134 critical care beds available and just over 1,400 general beds.
