After many years of planning and building and weeks of preparation the day finally arrived for Mountrath Community School to celebrate it’s official opening on March 26 2010.
A large crowd from the local community gathered in the school, along with parents, dignitaries, staff and the pupils who performed for the audience.
The official blessing of the school, which took place in the new hall was celebrated by Archdeacon Murray, Bishop Moriarty and Fr Hennessy PP.
Mountrath CS brought together three schools – The Brigidine Secondary School, Patrician College Ballyfin and St Aengus in Mountrath.
During the event the history and legacy of these longstanding schools was remembered.
The red ribbon to officially open the school was cut by Sean Fleming TD.
Mountrath CS boasts state of the art facilities and is at the heart of the community in the town.
Alf Harvey was there on the special occasion and took some great pictures.
