Former Mountrath Community School student Christopher Carew has been honoured for outstanding academic success achieved during his first year of studying medicine at University College Dublin (UCD).
The Portlaoise man was the recipient of three awards at the prestigious Awards Ceremony held at O’Reilly Hall at the weekend (the only awardee to do so).
His first award- The University Scholarship Award -was for the highest GPA attained in stage one medicine.
Benefits include bursary, recognition certificate, and achievement recorded on academic transcript.
Next was The Catholic University Award, where he was presented with a medal in recognition of examination results.
His third award of the evening was the Molloy Prize In Chemistry -a medal awarded annually for the combined top marks in Chemistry modules taken during Stage 1 of the Medicine Degree Programme.
This award will no doubt bring a smile to renowned Mountrath Community School Chemistry teacher Ms Siobhan Crofton!
Professor Mark Rogers UCD Deputy President presented the awards.
Christopher is already an Adastra Scholar at the University and is a member of the UCD Swim Team who took the overall runners up spot at the Swimming Intervarsities held recently at UL.
Fair play Christopher!
