Tributes have been paid following the sad passing of Fr John Lalor – Parish Priest of Camross.
Fr Lalor passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny recently.
Bishop Dermot Farrell, Bishop of Ossory, paid tribute to Fr Lalor who celebrated his Golden Jubilee in 2018.
He said: “It is with deep sadness that we greeted the news of the death of Fr John.
“Since his ordination on June 16 1968, he has been a priest of the Diocese of Ossory.
“Fr John has, in all his appointments, served the people in his care to the best of his ability; his warm nature made him a very popular figure in the parish communities in which he served.
“Having worked for one year in Hexham and Newcastle in England, Fr John held a number of appointments in Ossory.
“He served in St Canice’s, Callan and Thomastown Parishes, and since 1987 he has lived and worked among the people of Camross.
“Fr John was a pioneer of lay involvement in the life of the parish and was a strong advocate, from the earliest of days, for people taking leadership roles in their parish community.
“I know, given his closeness with the people, that his death will be sadly felt by the people of Camross.
“I offer sympathies, then, to them and to his sisters and brother, his extended family, and to his brother priests and to all who knew and loved him.
“Ar dheis Dé do raibh a anam.”
Fr Lalor is regretted by his sisters Mary and Anne, brother Gay, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, Bishop of Ossory, Bishop Dermot Farrell, priests of Ossory diocese and the people of Camross.
