With just a week to go to the 2020 General Election we return with our latest Talking Politics Podcast.
Presenter Steven Miller is once again joined by experienced political journalists John Whelan and John Drennan to look in depth at the Laois-Offaly constituency.
We profile the 15 candidates on the ballot paper – where they’re from, who they represent and what their track record is like in Local and General Elections.
With six outgoing TDs, an outgoing Senator and four current county councillors, there is a serious battle in store.
The general consensus is that Sean Fleming (Fianna Fail), Charlie Flanagan (Fine Gael), Brian Stanley (Sinn Fein) and Barry Cowen (Fianna Fail) are all in a strong position to be returned for another Dáil term. But in what order?
And who’ll win that seat? Can Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy (Fine Gael) or Carol Nolan (Independent) hold on?
Can John Leahy (Independent) or Peter Ormond (Fianna Fail) break through?
What of Pippa Hackett (Greens), Pauline Madigan (Fianna Fáil) and Noel Tuohy (Labour)?
And who are the other candidates?
We also take a look at the battle in Kildare South, a constituency that now incorporates a large section of Laois, including Portarlington, Ballybrittas and Killenard.
