Portlaoise Detective Unit while on a patrol came across a male acting suspiciously in the Cappakeal area outside Portlaoise last night.
As a result of a search they recovered approximately €5000 worth of what is believed to be cocaine and heroin.
The person was arrested and detained. Matter now subject to a file to Director of Public Prosecutions.
This news comes as Gardaí are continuing to investigate a number of burglaries happening in Laois recently.
Gardaí are appealing for information and have launched the following appeal.
They say: “Gardaí in Portlaoise are investigating two burglaries that occurred on Wednesday January 15 between 9am and 6pm in the Ballyroan and Attanagh areas of Laois.
“They are particularly interested in the movements of a white van with blue stripe on drivers side.
“If you say any suspicious persons or vehicles in these areas during that time please let Gardaí know.
