Those walking or running in the annual New Year’s Day charity walk in Timahoe will be able to size themselves up against one of Laois’s finest hurlers.
Rathdowney-Errill ace Mark Kavanagh will be leading the 18th annual walk which gets underway at 1pm.
Kavanagh, who shot the lights out for Laois in 2019 in the Joe McDonagh Cup and later for his own club in the championship, succeeds the McDonalds from Ballyroan who led the way in 2018.
Fossey Hills will set the scene for both the 6k and 10k routes – as a huge crowd is once again expected.
This walk is for everyone and it hopes to raise much needed funds for vital services.
All funds raised on the day are going towards the Irish Wheelchair Association and Maura O’Brien’s Fatima pilgrimage fund.
Organiser Johnny Dalton hopes that everyone will meet in Timahoe village to ‘shake off the Christmas cobwebs’ and raise money for the charities.
Refreshments will be served in the community hall afterwards.
Sponsorship cards are available from Maura or Johnny on 087 9073323.
