The Rock National School opened up their new extension this afternoon.
The extension will cater for pupils with special needs and those who may need learning support.
Speaking at the opening, principal Liam Ahern said:”It is my pleasure to welcome you to the opening of the extension.
“It is the fourth extension to the school in the last 13 years.
“I’d like to thank Fitzgibbon McGinley Architects, Joe Doolin contractor and his co workers, parents, guardians and the parents council, the school secretary and caretaker as well as the teachers and students who have been patient with the construction over the past while.”
Ahern also acknowledged Fr McNamara from the Board of Management for his devotion, help and support over the years.
He then chose a sample of tear jerking prayers which the students had written for Christmas before he spoke of the work and influence the late Ted Laffey, former Principal of Scoil Bhríde in Knockmay, Portlaoise but hailing from Irishtown, Mountmellick.
Fr McNamara blessed the new extension before the ribbon was cut and there was great excitement around the school.
