In October, we shared the story of the Mannion family and their bid to raise money to help their beautiful son who is in need of medical support.
In order to help, Portlaoise gym Ladies Only Lifting (LOL) hosted a 12 hour marathon on Sunday and it was a great success as they raised €1,500.
There was an amazing show of support for Jamie at the first fundraising event organised by Yvonne Culleton of Ladies Only Gym, Portlaoise.
People began arriving at 8am for the first workout, consisting of two hours of differing exercises, the last group left at 8pm, completing the marathon workout.
Throughout the day groups arrived to take part and such was the support that some returned for a second round later in the day.
Jamie made an appearance with his dad, Declan, for a few moments and his brother Ryan took part in some of the marathon.
Both his parents’, Siobhan’s and Declan’s, families travelled to be there for the day with nieces a plenty to take part and enjoy the
atmosphere, which was one of fun.
Jamie’s Dad, Declan said: “We are overwhelmed with the amount
of people who came out in support of Jamie. This will go a long way in helping him out.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped make the day such a success.”
True community spirit was shown in the amount of people who
showed up to participate and called in for tea and cake and a raffle which had prizes a plenty.
Beth from Well Spring Sanctuary offered her services of a wonderful massage and all the funds were donated to Jamie’s campaign.
Owner of LOL, Yvonne Culleton said: “This is what it is all about here. We build community and we support each other. I am so lucky to be part of it.”
This is Yvonne’s fifth fundraiser that she has organised while being in business in Portlaoise.
The Mannion family are planning further fundraising events to help them reach their target of €50000, which they are getting close to being half way.
