We are almost exactly a month out from Christmas Day and the festive spirit cranked up a few notches as Portlaoise officially opened its Christmas Market at the weekend.
The action got underway at 11am on Sunday as the markets opened while Santa Clause himself arrived at 2pm.
Local singer Stacey Dunne performed Christmas Carols and songs in the Market Square while the local Children’s Choir also took part.
The markets closed at 6pm but before all of that at 4.30pm – Santa himself officially turned on the Christmas lights.
For €5, you could get a visit to Santa, a go at the pet farm and some face painting.
Downtown Portlaoise Retailers and Laois County Council teamed up to bring this year’s Christmas Market to life.
Main Street in Portlaoise was full of around 60 stalls selling everything from ornaments to local produce and much more.
Our photographer Julie Anne Miller was there too and she captured some great pictures.
