Laois/Offaly Fine Gael TD, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy has welcomed confirmation from the Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh TD that Scoil Bhríde National School, Clonaslee, has received approval from his Department that the existing staffing levels at the school will be maintained.
She said: “In recent weeks I met with representatives from the school who conveyed to me their genuine concern at the potential loss of a teacher due to the school just falling short of the Department’s enrolment requirements.
“Unresolved this would have posed significant challenges for the school.
“I have held a number of discussions with my Government colleague, Minister McHugh and I am delighted that this matter has been resolved for the school.
“Clonaslee is an area where the population is growing and this is the correct decision for the school community. I am glad that common sense has prevailed.
“Scoil Bhríde is situated in the picturesque village of Clonaslee in the foothills of the Sliabh Bloom Mountains in Laois.
“It is a very small school but is very vital to the community.”
The news will no doubt be welcomed by all in Clonaslee.
