Mountmellick Macra wish to sincerely thank all who supported their performances of the comedy ‘Fortunes and Misfortunes’, written by playwright Jimmy Keary, on October 18 and 19.
The story was a comedy set in the Cosy Cafe.
Daisy Fortune, played by Gemma Dunphy is a hard working waitress hoping for a big lotto win and she has a good-for-nothing son, Nathan who has big ideas.
Bill Delaney, played by Gary Peake is the local national school principal who spends his days in the cafe unsuccessfully avoiding the local parents – one of which has taken a great shine to him.
The story unfolds with Bill trying to keep flirtatious Wanda(Aoife Fitzpatrick) a secret from his wife, Oonagh (Rosemary Whelan) as Oonagh tries to do a bit of social climbing in the community by hosting a writers workshop for aspiring poets.
Throw in a loose lizard in the cafe and a disastrous poetry workshop at the Delaney’s house and you’ve got a comedy that left the audience in stitches and the cast trying to hold it altogether.
Mountmellick Macra said: “We are delighted to have donated €1,600 to Mountmellick Parish Debt Campaign as a result.
“We are hugely grateful for the hard work of the cast, producer AC Reynolds, and helpers behind the scenes who all contributed to the success of our production.
“We hope that everyone in attendance enjoyed a good night of entertainment.”
