The Laois domestic football season came to a close on Sunday as we had two finals to conclude things.
Up first, we had the minor final between Ballyroan-Abbey and Emo-Courtwood which was an absolute thriller.
Emo-Courtwood were crowned Laois minor football champions for the third time in four years following a thrilling win over Ballyroan-Abbey in O’Moore Park on Sunday afternoon.
Having won the old U-18 grade in 2016, they have now won the U-17 minor title in 2017 and 2019, continuing a golden age for the parish’s underage teams.
They were previously under the St Paul’s banner and had input from The Rock but they now by Emo-Courtwood at this age group and will savour this win, particularly having come in as outsiders against a Ballyroan-Abbey side seeking to retain the title they won last year.
Then Portlaoise were crowned Laois SFC champions for the 35th time following their narrow win over first-time finalists Killeshin on the same day.
Portlaoise had to dig very deep to pull through against a Killeshin side that pushed them all the way and even led at a couple of different stages in the second half.
But The Town called on all their collective experience to complete their latest three-in-a-row and win their 12th title in 13 years.
To wrap up our football chat this year, the tried and trusted duo of Alan Hartnett and Steven Miller are here once more.
