Last Friday Portlaoise Institute held their annual graduation ceremony.
There was a great turnout with over 220 students receiving certification awards from Portlaoise Institute last year.
These students received QQI level 5 & 6 qualifications in a range of areas such Computer Science, Healthcare and Leisure Management.
Deputy Principal Keith McClearn thanked teachers, parents and family members who had played a key role in helping the graduates achieve their awards last year.
Special guests Elaine Gavin and Aine Dooley (both former students) spoke on how their qualification from Portlaoise Institute assisted them in their educational journeys.
Elaine now runs her own childcare facility and Aine is studying for a degree in Nursing.
Over 50% of this year’s graduates are progressing on to Colleges including UCC, UL, UCD, Maynooth, Carlow IT, Athlone IT, Limerick IT, and Waterford ITs.
While other graduates are returning to Portlaoise Institute to further their studies in the Institute’s Level 6 or Diploma programs.
With the current buoyancy in the Economy many graduates are going directly into work in the Business, Healthcare, Childcare, Beauty, Hairdressing and Leisure industries.
