One of Laois’s oldest festivals will not take place this summer after organisers announced they were taking the decision to cancel it.
The Festival of the Mountain, which has taken place in Rosenallis every summer since 1962, will not go ahead with organisers citing a lack of interest.
A statement from organisers said: “Regrettably Rosenallis Festival of the Mountain will not take place this year (2019).
“The festival has been running since 1962 but in recent years interest has waned and attendance dropped.
“Unfortunately we do not have enough people to help with the organising of the Festival, therefore it is not possible to continue with small numbers.
“The committee of Rosenallis Development Association will continue to operate by holding regular meetings and will remain fundraising and still run the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the village.
“We would sincerely like to thank our sponsors, committee members and everyone who contributed and made the Festival a reality over its 57 year history.
“We aim to bring the festival back next year but we cannot do this without the help of the people, clubs and organisations.
“We are appealing to anyone who wishes to help to contact any member of the committee or call Kevin 087 9614235 or Daniel 085 1847390 if you wish to get involved with the Festival for 2020. Without additional help and support, it will not be possible to hold the Festival into the future.
“For now, the committee (hopefully alongside some extra faces) will reflect and come together to generate new ideas with the goal of rejuvenating the Festival and returning it to its more successful days.”
