Thursday May 16 saw a packed house witness the annual awards ceremony in Portlaoise College.
A wide variety of awards were handed out on the evening for academic performance and extra-curricular achievement.
The guest on the evening was Laois today’s own Steven Miller. Steven stepped into the breach after RTE news correspondent Ciaran Mullooly had to pull out to cover the lead up to the recent election and what a sub the Annanough man proved to be.
Steven gave a fantastic speech to the audience focusing on the importance of education in the ever changing and developing town of Portlaoise.
Special attention always goes to the sixth years on such evenings as it is their last awards event.
Deirde Cadogan picked up the Exceptional student award not only for her studies but her leadership in the school as Head girl and her all round participation. A highly accomplished musician, Deirdre really has a bright future ahead.
Sarah Lynch from Stradbally deservingly picked up the Student of the year award, Emilly Aguiar the Spirit of Portlaoise College award and the recipients of the bursary for third level were Illan Dunne and Anita Walas.
A fantastic celebration, the very best of luck to all students doing exams this summer.
Thanks to teacher John Murphy for sending in these great photos.
