Commuter have been left angry and frustrated this morning as trains from Portlaoise station to Grand Canal Dock have been grounded.
Originally, all services had been hit but they are alowly coming back on stream with delays.
Thousands of commuters had their travel disrupted after a major signal fault affected services operating into and out of Heuston this morning.
The fault occurred after some services had already left regional stations.
Iarnód Éireann said on twitter that a manual signalling system has been put in place and services are resuming, but with delays.
They say: “Portlaoise Commuter & Hazelhatch to Grand Canal Dock services remain suspended.
“All Intercity services including Galway/Westport services are back operating subject to delays.”
Jane Cregan of Irish Rail said: “The main problem still exists. We are still working to rectify the central signalling problem that impacted on services this morning.
“We do have knock-on delays to services, because we were stopped for so long. We anticipate by mid-morning, all services will be back operating as per the time table.”
