Independent James Kelly has been elected in the Borris-Mountmellick area on the sixth count in the Local Election.
The Mountrath native got the highest First Preference vote with 1,517 but he fell short of the quota of 1,704.
After four counts of no-one reaching the quota in the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick area, Paddy Bracken was the first over the line on the fifth count.
The Mountmellick man received 1752 votes on the fifth count, after receiving 187 of Fergal Conroy’s votes from the fourth round of counting.
Liam O’Neill was then excluded and his surplus has elected James Kelly.
James received 107 of O’Neill’s vote and that saw him over the line.
The state of play is now as follows:
Paddy Bracken 1752 ELECTED on 5th count
James Kelly (+163) 1811 ELECTED on 6th count
