Hundreds gathered in the main square in Rathdowney this morning for the annual Darkness into Light event.
The annual 5km walk/run fundraising event – held in venues all over the world – was once again a huge success raising huge money and awareness for Pieta House.
Despite the early hours, people were in high spirits and eager to take part and enjoy the event.
Last year €10,000 was raised by walkers and runners in Rathdowney last year, and it is hoped the same or an amount surpassing this will be earned at this year’s event.
Pieta House’s flagship fundraising awareness event takes place in over 180 venues in Ireland and around the world.
Funds raised from Darkness Into Light help keep Pieta House’s counselling services free to those in suicidal crisis, people who engage in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide.
LaoisToday went along to capture some photos in The Square in the early hours.
