It’s the weekend again and we’re looking forward to getting out and about.  

If you are looking for something a little different why not check out Teach An Chuinne House Concerts in Shanahoe, an unique venue championing original singer songwriters.  

Cúig play Dunamaise Arts Centre with contemporary Irish music and Smash Hits are back in Kavanagh’s Bar and Venue.

Enjoy an evening of traditional music with Spink Comhaltas on Saturday night in Abbeyleix or check out Farmer Michael for some hilarious comedy in Mountmellick.  It’s a busy county this weekend.

THURSDAY MARCH 28

Little Bog Theatre

The little Bog Theatre’s second show runs this Thursday, Friday and Saturday night in The Heath Parish Hall at 7.30pm.

Table Quiz – Laois School of Music

The Laois School of Music are holding a table quiz to raise funds for future trips and activities for the Youth Orchestra.

There will be lots of music rounds and special guest performances from singer-songwriter James O’Connor and some musicians from the Laois School of Music and Music Generation.   

A table of four costs €40 and there will be a great raffle on the night. The quiz takes place in O’Loughlins Hotel at 8pm.

FRIDAY MARCH 29

Teach An Chuinne House Concerts

Do you love live music in alternative settings? Teach An Chuinne House Concerts is Laois’s answer to ‘Other Voices’. Come hear three original singer songwriters Mala Gassman, Stephen Sutton and James O’Connor on Friday 29 March, 8pm.   

Teach An Chuinne is a small unique venue in Shanahoe, near Abbeyleix. There is a €10 cover charge and has a ‘bring your own bottle’ policy. Space is limited so book by calling John 085 1102168.

Smash Hits

A Laois favourite is back in town. Smash Hits! is a unique, entertaining tribute to the golden era of early ’90s dance, pop and R&B. Always guaranteed an excellent night.

Tickets are €18.50 and the gig begins at 9.30pm in Kavanaghs Bar and Venue. 

Cúig

Cúig play Dunamaise Arts Centre this Friday night. Cúig’s high-octane original instrumentals and original songs offer a highly distinctive sound.

Their highly anticipated new album, ‘The Theory of Chaos’ is progressive, exhilarating and polished, placing Cúig at the forefront of contemporary Irish music.

SATURDAY MARCH 30

Mountain Bike Core Skills Lessons

Get yourself ready to enjoy the amazing mountain bike track that will soon be open. Learn how to navigate the terrain and learn required skills to navigate the trails with total confidence.  

The course will begin at the Slieve Bloom Mountain Bike Centre in Kinnity. The course costs €50 and includes Mountain Bike hire, helmet and refreshments will be served.

Mack Fleetwood

This Fleetwood Mac tribute act are playing live at Kavanagh’s Bar and Venue this Saturday night. Not to be missed by Fleetwood Mac fans. Tickets are €15 and the gig begins at 9.30pm. 

Evening of Music by Spink Comhaltas

Come along and enjoy an evening of music, song and entertainment presented by Spink Comhaltas and friends, including the Abbeyleix-Ballyroan Choir.   

The event is in memory of the late Tom Bonham will all proceeds from the evening will go towards MS Laois. Tickets are €15 and include a light buffet.  The event runs from 8pm-10pm in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. For more information see here

Farmer Michael And Kathleen live in Mountmellick

If you are in the mood for some comedy why not check out Farmer Michael in Mountmellick Arts Centre on Saturday night.

Farmer Michael is joined by his long suffering wife Kathleen and the who show is hilarious from beginning to end. Tickets are €23 and can be  bought online here. The show begins at 8pm. 

SUNDAY MARCH 31

Slieve Bloom Guided Walk

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club’s next guided walk is Ballyfin /Conlawn Hill Walk. This walk is a Grade B 8km walk and takes three hours so it’s suitable for most walkers.

Meeting point is at Deadman’s Inn at 11am.  €5 per walk or €20 annual membership (€30 for family). For more information see here.
