Gardaí investigating circumstances of death of man in rural Laois area

Gardai

Gardai have launched an investigation after a man in his 40s was found dead in Wolfhill in Laois this evening.

Close to 100 members of An Garda Siochána, including members of the Emergency Response Unit, have been at the scene in Laois all this afternoon and evening.

Emergency services were alerted to a situation at a house in Wolfhill – a remote rural area between Stradbally and Carlow – at lunch time today.

Gardai say that a man in his 40s has died and they are ‘now investigating all the circumstances surrounding his death’.

All the roads in the area were blocked off at the time and other residents in the small community were either told to stay in their homes – or weren’t able to go back to the area at all.

The Garda Press Office issued a Media Blackout Request at 6pm in relation to “an ongoing incident” in Wolfhill, Co Laois.

It explained that a number of Garda units were at the scene but requested media not to report on the incident on any platform.

They then lifted the media blackout request at 9pm and said in a statement: “The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have been notified of the investigation.

“The office of the State Pathologist has also been notified.

“Gardai are awaiting the results of the post mortem to determine the course of the investigation.”
