You can expect to see a famous face or two
Famous actor and Portlaoise native Robert Sheehan will be one of the distinguished guests on the viewing stand at The Town’s parade.
Best known for his roles in Misfits, Love Hate and most recently The Umbrella Academy, Sheehan is a proud Portlaoise man and always causes a bit of stir when visiting his home town.
Joining Sheehan on the viewing stand is the IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion, TJ ‘The Power’ Doheny.
Doheny has served as a great ambassador for Portlaoise. The Knockmay man became IBF Junior Featherweight Champion of the world last August, becoming the 21st Irish world champion and only the second ever Irishman after Jimmy McLarnin in 1933 to attain champion status without ever having fought on his native soil.
Joining two of Portlaoise’s most famous sons in the stands are Maureen Clooney and Dick Connell.
Maureen was instrumental in bringing the Irish girl guides to Portlaoise while Dick is the local co-ordinator for the Irish Guide Dog’s Association and is also a great ambassador for the blind in third world countries.
Leading the St Patrick’s Day parade down the streets of Portlaoise this year will be the Dunamaise Arts Centre.
A creative team was put together to create a sensational and colourful display of artistic and theatrical elements.
Many local groups and schools, who have or will take to the stage at Dunamaise, will join in the festivities to show their support for the arts centre.
Children and community are at the heart of this year’s theme for the parade in Portlaoise. It’s certainly set to be an exciting day out!
Portlaoise Parade starts from County Hall, Portlaoise, at 12.30pm.
