It was a packed house in Crean’s in Vicarstown on Tuesday night as the community celebrated the 90th birthday party of one of the area’s much-loved local characters.
Martin Scully is somewhat of a legend in the Courtwood-Vicarstown area.
Born in 1929, he celebrated his 90th birthday on Tuesday of this week, February 26.
There was standing room only in Crean’s while cars were parked for a long way in both directions.
Known to one and all as ‘Unc’, he’s a regular attendee at most events in both areas – be it parties, football matches, funerals or card games.
Indeed his reputation as a serious card player goes before him and he’s out most nights of the week playing in one venue or the other, most of the time making his way home and back on his trusty 1979 tractor.
Martin played with Annanough during his younger years when he featured in a number of county finals, winning senior medals in both 1951 and 1956.
His nephew John Scully captured a selection of great images that show the wonderful party atmosphere.
