Portarlington’s Gala Ball was more glamourous than ever for it’s 13th year running in the Heritage Hotel, Killenard.
This event has raised over €300,000 for local charities since it started and the charity chosen this year to benefit from fundraising is the Braveheart Special Club in Portarlington.
Around 250 people attended the event for the Special Needs club.
The attendees were invited to a four course meal with wine, followed by a luxurious raffle and live music by Transmitter.
Formerly the Special Olympics club, Bravehearts has around 40 members with special needs, aged between four years to over 70 years.
Bravehearts meet every Thursday night in Portarlington community centre for social and sporting activities like arts and craft, music and beauty demos from 6pm to 8pm.
Trips are also organised for the group, with last year’s excursions taking them to Lullymore and a Christmas party in Portarlington Rugby Club.
Organisers Collette Kennedy, Marie Corcoran and Maria Molloy once again put on a serious show with the style second to none.
Maria Molloy spoke to LaoisToday about the night. “We’ve always had great support when it comes to sponsorship from the local community. The way it works is that everyone fills in an envelope with their name in it and one person from each table is called out to pick a prize. They pick a number and receive the correlating prize.”
LaoisToday was on hand to capture all the glitz and glamour of the night.
