Gardai launch appeal as woman killed after being struck by lorry near Laois border

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision in Athy today.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a serious road accident in Athy after a woman was knocked down by a lorry on the bridge in the town opposite AIB.

At around 2.30pm this afternoon, a female pedestrian in her 60s was struck by a truck at Duke Street, Athy.

She was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the truck was uninjured.

The deceased has been removed to the mortuary at Nass Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out, the local Coroner has been notified.

Garda forensic collision investigators are at the scene and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
