There was a total of 79 houses sold in Laois in December, making it one of the busiest months of the year for transactions to be recorded.
It also helped make 2018 the busiest year of residential sales since the Property Price Register started recording the prices and making them available online in 2010.
A total of 828 residential properties were recorded as being sold in Laois in 2018, which is up on the 781 sold in 2017 and 780 sold in 2016.
In contrast, there were just 331 recorded sales in 2010 and 325 in 2011.
The Property Price Register details the properties sold on a month-by-month and county-county basis and we have been tracking the Laois figures throughout the last 12 months.
And while there are can be some slight anomolies – the price is exclusive of VAT for new builds that are sold; if there is land also sold with the house, the overall sale price that is recorded is reduced to exclude a portion of the land; and some of the sales can be a couple of months behind in being recorded – it is still seen as one of the main guages of residential property activity.
The most expensive house sold was for €410,000 in Ballymaddock in Stradbally, one of just 15 properties in Laois to change changes for more than €400,000 in the last 12 months.
There was also sales of €395,000 in Killeshin, €350,000 in Cullohill and €300,000 in Rathdowney and Abbeyleix.
There was also a bulk sale of 13 apartments in Corrig Glen in Portarlington at €171,000 each and over €2 million in total.
At the other end of the market, a property in Irey, Ballyfin, sold for €50,000 while one in College View in Mountmellick sold for €52,000.
