Laois’s 1986 National Football League success was one of the greatest days in the county’s sporting history.
That was a side packed with legends of Laois football. Martin Dempsey at full-back, the late Pat Brophy at centre-back, All Stars Colm Browne and Liam Irwin, big John Costello, the silken Tom Prendergast in an attack that also included Gerry Browne, Willie Brennan and Eamon ‘Atch’ Whelan who scored two goals in the league final win over Monaghan.
The team photo from that win is in almost every pub and clubhouse around the county.
And now the iconic jersey from that day has been re-produced – and it’s sure to go down an absolute treat.
Darren Strong, who played for the Laois footballers himself for almost ten years, owns his own sports wear company DS Sports and he has brought out that jersey, which is certain to be the must have fashion item for Laois supporters young and old.
The simple blue and white jersey is identical to the 1986 style, complete with the same collar, sleeves and even with the Guaranteed Irish logo.
The jersey is available to pre-order from DS Sports for €30.
