It was a dreadful weekend on our roads.
There was a terrible tragedy in Donegal as four young men were killed in a single vehicle collision on Sunday night and Gardai are also appealing for witnesses to a crash which claimed a life on the Laois border with Kilkenny.
Gardaí at Castlecomer in Kilkenny are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Coolcullen Co Kilkenny between 7pm and 8pm last night (Sunday).
The male driver, who is in his 80s, was the only occupant and was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road and collided a pole.
His body has been removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Waterford where a post mortem will take place. The local coroner has been notified.
The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Garda forensic collision investigators are due to examine the scene this morning.
