In Pictures: Almost 1,000 people turn out for Operation Transformation walks around Laois

Operation Transformation walks took Laois by storm today, Saturday January 12.

Nearly 1,000 participants attended the four events around the county, with Emo recording the largest turnout of roughly 400 people.

Stradbally, Durrow, and Portlaoise were the three other locations for the different walks all starting at 11am.

Participants converged from Ballykilcavan House outside Stradbally for either the 3km or 5km walk.

Durrow walkers meet at The Square for their 5km or 8km journey through Capponellagh Woods.

Meanwhile Emo Court hosted their highly successful 5km walk starting from Emo Community hall.

The Leisure Centre in Moneyballytyrell gave Portlaoise walkers a meeting place for their 5km trek along the Slí na Sláinte route.

Many community groups and organisations are also hosting their own Operation Transformation groups, following inspiration from the hugely popular show.

Indeed a strong Laois presence is on the show this year, as Portarlington woman Dr Sumi Dunne is taking over from Dr Ciara for the twelfth series.

Operation Transformation is RTÉ One every January at 9.35pm.
