Eason’s Annual Spelling Bee has launched and registrations are still open to give students across Ireland the chance to be crowned the King or Queen Bee.
Now in its ninth year, the Eason Spelling Bee is the very definition of fun for school kids, encouraging them to read more, expand their vocabulary and fall in love with literacy.
This year, over 800 schools around Ireland have already registered to take part, and schools yet to register have the opportunity to do so until January 14.
Eason are partnering with Today FM for a fourth year and, in early summer, presenter Alison Curtis will host the Provincial and All Ireland Spelling Bees.
Brendan Corbett, Group Head of Marketing at Eason, said; “We’re now in the ninth year of the Eason Spelling Bee and we’re incredibly proud to see it going from strength to strength annually.
“Each year, the children involved continue to impress us with their level of spelling skill and it’s wonderful to see schools across the country continuing to support this programme.”
To participate in the Eason Spelling Bee and be in with a chance to win amazing prizes, registered schools must host their own in-school Bee among 5th & 6th class students to find their school spelling champion.
From there, the Eason Spelling Bee team will travel around the country to host County Final Bees, culminating in four Provincial Bees.
The champions from these will then go head to head in the All-Ireland Final Bee, which will take place in June, and the lucky winner will be crowned King or Queen Bee.
Along with the prestigious title of Eason Spelling Bee 2019 Champion, the winning speller will also take home a collection of books for their school library, worth €7,500 as well as a personal collection of books worth €500.
