A learner driver has had their vechicle seized for driving unaccompanied.
The driver was caught going at excessive speeds while unaccompanied outside of Portlaoise today, Thursday January 8.
The learner driver was going 52km over the speed limit of 120km on the motorway just south of Portlaoise.
They were stopped by the Divisional Roads Policing Unit a short while ago.
The vehicle was seized for driving unaccompanied and a speeding ticket to follow in post.
A new crackdown on unaccompanied learner drivers to came into force in December 2018.
The new Clancy Amendment allows gardaí to seize vehicles driven by learner drivers who are unaccompanied by a full-licence holder of two years or more.
