It promised to be a great day in Coolrain – and a great day was had.
Today, Friday December 28, Clonenagh National School held their Annual Tractor Run, Monster Auction and 6k run.
After many successful years of holding the Tractor run, there was also a 6km Family Fun Run in the morning to help blow off the cobwebs from the Christmas exertions.
Lining out for the occasion included professional Irish golfer Shane Lowry. Shane and his wife Wendy Honner were among those present at the run – with Wendy’s sister Melissa being principal of Clonenagh NS.
For the more serious runners, there were prizes for first man, woman and child.
Special mention goes to the first male over the finish line Paul Cuddy , first female over the line Maria Cuddy and first national school child to cross the line, Charlie Peavoy.
However there was also an opportunity for those who enjoy scenic walks to experience the beautiful scenery of the Slieve Bloom Mountains and the delights of the quaint village of Coolrain.
The Tractor Run (in its 10th year) is a real sight to behold with over 100 vehicles of all shapes and sizes making the run each year.
The now legendary Tractor Run Stew was again be available to warm participants after the run and lots of soups/tea/coffee/treats etc throughout the afternoon.
Of course, what Coolrain event would it be if Sheeran’s wasn’t involved. Live musical was provided throughout the day with at least three different performers taking to the stage.
The Monster Auction took place at 9pm, with 20 to 30 lots to suit all comers.
