The fourth storm of the season is set to hit us today and Met Eireann has issued a warning.
Storm Deirdre is set to hit us this afternoon with the national weather forecasting issuing a status Orange wind warning – their second highest level.
Forecasters have confirmed the storm will bring “disruptive and damaging gusts” of 130kph – hitting counties in the west and south in the afternoon before spreading our direction into the evening.
All the while, it is set to be extremely wet today with a status Yellow rainfall warning in effect for the whole country from this morning.
Weather chiefs say there will be accumulations of 30 to 50mm with the heavy downpours.
Winds begin to strengthen from tonight with persistent downpours and there may be some flooding by morning time.
The wind alert comes into effect from 3pm tomorrow for the rest of the day.
It reads: “A developing depression (Storm Deirdre) will track northeast over Ireland during Saturday afternoon and evening and will bring wet and windy weather to all areas.
“West or northwest winds will reach mean speeds of 65km/h with gusts of 100km/h generally, with disruptive and damaging gusts to 130km/h likely for a few hours in western and southern counties in the late afternoon and transferring eastwards during the evening.”
It will clear into Saturday night and become mostly dry on Sunday.
But while the wet weather dies off – temperatures will plummet.
