Gardai have arrested four illegal immigrants in Laois last night.
A Garda spokesperson has confirmed to LaoisToday that the incident occurred last night.
The quartet were detained at a filling station in Grantstown.
They got out of the back of a lorry at the motorway.
It is understood that the lorry entered the country from Cork.
And the four people involved have requested asylum.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Four illegal immigrants were arrested last night near Ballacolla having got out the back of a lorry at the motorway filling station at Grantstown.
“They entered the country from Spain at Rinaskiddy, Cork.
“They have been taken back there. They have requested asylum.”
It is understood that the four are all male.
