Annanough’s Leinster Club junior football campaign may have ended in disappointment last Saturday when they went down to Louth champions Dundalk Young Irelands – but it was still a memorable season for the Vicarstown club.
They claimed the Laois JFC title at the end of September when they got the better of O’Dempsey’s.
It was the club’s first championship success since they claimed intermediate glory in 1978.
Last week players from the club brought the trophy into their local primary school – St Colman’s NS in Stradbally.
Children from Vicarstown and the Annanough catchment area mostly go to school in Stradbally – and so there were joyous scenes when three players and all past pupils of the school brought the trophy in.
Goalkeeper Sean Hennessy and young forwards Killian Horgan and Damien McCaul brought the cup to the school where they were welcomed by principal Andy Hanrahan and staff.
And while the school comprises students from Stradbally and Annanough and some other neighbouring clubs too, there was still a significant blue and yellow contingent to celebrate on the day.
Players from the clubs compete together at Cumann na mBunscol level, Community Games and with Stradbally Parish Gaels while also representing their individual clubs.
