Portlaoise GAA are making the trip to Newbridge greyhound stadium for one of their biggest fundraisers of the year this Friday, November 16.
Tour de Town is taking place with an exciting card of 10 races on the night.
Huge numbers are anticipated, as Portlaoise’s senior football teams celebrate their 2017 season, which saw them win the football county final and the senior ‘A’ hurling county final.
The night kicks off at 7pm, with all races sponsored by local businesses.
This includes the Louis McMahon memorial race, in honour of the former club man and greyhound enthusiast who sadly died during the year.
Punters are marking ‘the human race’ as being the highlight of the night, where six local stars will tog out to win the title of Hound Of The Town 2018.
The six locals bidding for the title are:
Trap 1 Paul ‘Walla’ Brown running for Hume’s Pub
Trap2 Niamh Kavanagh running for PJ Kavanaghs
Trap 3 Ger O’Reilly running for Lilly’s
Trap 4 Eamonn Blanc running for Peig’s
Trap 5 Darragh Hyland running for Jeremiah Grant
And the bookies favourite, Miles Miley Carroll running for Mick Ryan’s in trap 6.
Also on display will be one of Portlaoise’s ‘hairiest chests’, with the owner of said chest willing to get the town’s crest engraved onto him.
There will be some great raffles on the night for town memorabilia – including signed jerseys, hurls and balls from teams past and present.
Tickets are €10 and available from the above establishments, any senior player, club members or Hume Auctioneers. Children go free and are welcome to come along and meet their senior idols.
Some local pubs are running buses, and the first race begins at 8pm.
