Both local and national weather forecasters are issuing warnings about stormy conditions and strong winds taking place over the country today.
Midland Weather channel posted a status about heavy winds and rain.
“Stormy conditions are likely for a time tomorrow in many areas of the country, especially along coastal areas of the west, south and east.
“Winds in exposed coastal areas will reach anywhere between 110-130 km/h, with some disruption to ferry services likely on the Irish Sea.
Laois and much of the Midlands is expected to be most affected between 3pm to 5pm.
“The peak winds will occur in southwestern and western areas between 07:00 and 11:00 am, before transferring to central and southern areas between 11:00 and 15:00 pm, and finally in eastern coastal counties between 14:00 and 17:00 pm.
“Heavy rain is also likely to accompany the strong winds, with rainfall totals of between 15-35 mm likely. This will make for rather dangerous driving conditions at times, with some spot flooding likely in places.”
Met Éireann issued a status yellow rainfall warning for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford will be in place until 6pm.
The last of the downpours is expected to clear northwards tonight.
Commuters are advised to take caution and slow down during heavy winds and rain.
