Gardai have closed part of the N80 following a fatal crash this morning.
The incident happened between Stradbally and Arles close to Simmon’s Mill Cross at about 8.50am.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene, it is understood.
He is believed to be a Latvian national in his 40s and died in a collision with another car.
The occupants of the other car, a female and her child, are reported to have received minor injuries.
They were taken to Portlaoise General Hospital and Crumlin Hospital.
The road at the scene of the incident is currently closed to facilitate an examination by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Investigations are on going, diversions are in place at present and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
