It may seem like Mission Impossible in this day and age, but a group of Portlaoise students gave up their phones for 24 hours to raise money for a very worthy cause.
Transition Year students in Portlaoise College gave up their phones – not just for the school day – but for a whole 24 hours on 23rd October 2018 to raise money for Enable Ireland.
A tough task for anyone young or old these days but for the TY students of Portlaoise College it was an opportunity to help adults and children with disabilities who get support from assistive technology.
Organised by TY coordinator Ms Sinead Boland, she had the unenviable task of safe guarding the students’ prized possessions for the duration of the fund raiser.
How they faired out
Student Ayman Mahidi said, “We are giving up our phones to show how technology is so important for people with special needs.”
Caoimhe Dunne revealed that she, “barely survived, but the cause was so worthy that it made it worth it.”
The challenge was also opened to other students to take part and sponsorship forms were handed out in their masses.
The final count of monies raised is on-going. Well done to all involved.
