Who will become the 10th President of the Republic of Ireland?
Well, on Friday October 26 the people of Ireland will be asked to go to the polls to decide who they would like to fill the roll for the next seven years.
The campaign has been running for the last month and now six candidates will go before the people – including the sitting President Michael D Higgins.
He is up once again against Sean Gallagher, who finished runner up seven years ago, along with independents Gavin Duffy, Peter Casey, Joan Freeman and Sinn Fein’s Liadh Ni Riada.
So to gauge the local opinion we will ask our readers – across our social media platforms – what way they intend to vote.
Over the course of 24 hours, from 1pm on Monday today to 1pm on Tuesday, we will run polls on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
While we acknowledge that this isn’t a scientific poll for a number of reasons – people could vote on each platform if they wished; some people could have been under 18; social media is more heavily weighted towards younger people; and there was no option for the undecided – it will be a significant straw poll at this moment in time.
So keep an eye out for our polls which will run for the next 24 hours and we will reveal the results on Wednesday morning.
Voting in the Presidential Election begins at 7am this coming Friday, with polls closing at 10pm.
